One Solitary Life:
Love Was The Reason

The one that we celebrate on Christmas Day
He is Life - He is Truth - He is The Way
He is Jesus Christ, our savior and Lord
Who paid in full, a debt I could not afford

God knew from the sinful fall of man
There would have to be a redemption plan
He would clothe himself in flesh and come to this earth
Born as an innocent baby by a virgins birth

The message of a Messiah was fore told
As God revealed it to prophets of old
He wanted his people close - but sin held us at bay
Out of love to redeem us - he chose to make a way

Isaiah spoke it loud and clear
A child would be born - let everyone hear
He is called the mighty God - everlasting Father and Prince of Peace
And his reign will be forever - his throne never to cease

He was coming to save the human race
To carry our sins and die in our place
Once and for all the sacrifice would be made
With his blood - the price of my freedom was paid

So with that, God himself became a man
With an humble birth, it all began
A virgin named Mary was chosen as the mother
As it was done unto her - it was never to another

When the angel appeared and spoke to Mary
She heard words that were frightening and scary
"Be not afraid" the angel said "You have no need to fear
You have found favor with God, that is the reason I'm here"

"Behold - you will conceive and bring forth a son
And call his name Jesus - He is the chosen one
He will reign forever - his kingdom has no end
To you Mary, this child, God will send"

She was engaged to Joseph but did not understand
How could this be, when she had not yet known a man
The angel said "By the Holy Ghost it shall be done
This child, you see, is God's own son"

The power of the Highest will overshadow thee
God himself will cause this to be
Mary answered "Let it be done as you have said"
And to Joseph her espoused, she was soon wed.

In Bethlehem, to pay tax on their worth
The time came for Mary to give birth
Joseph searched for a place they could stay
But the innkeeper had to turn them away

He showed them to a stable where the animals are kept
It had a feed trough, some rags and hay where they slept
And though it was cold, musty and worn
This is where our King chose to be born

Shepherds on a hill watching their sheep
Awakened by angels, as they lay half asleep
"Fear not" the angels declared "We bring good news
Born this day is Christ the Lord - King of the Jews"

"Follow the star of Bethlehem - there you will find
A baby wrapped in swaddling clothes - that is your sign"
Glory to God - Peace - Good will toward Men
The baby that is born will save us from sin

So the shepherds did as they were told
And there in the stable, their eyes did behold
Mary, Joseph and the baby - as the angels had said
No longer afraid - they gave glory to God instead

Wise men and kings heard this news
And sought to worship the King of the Jews
Led by the light of a shining star
They followed in many days from afar

When King Herod heard of their task
He called them in with questions to ask
"What time did the star appear?
And where will your journey go from here?"

"When you find this king - return to me
For I want to worship him also, you see."
So they continued the journey with hearts meek and mild
Til they found the place with the mother and child

They worshiped him and fell at his feet
When at last this king they did meet
Presenting him gifts of frankincense, myrrh and gold
They KNEW it was the Messiah their eyes did behold

Jesus grew in stature and wisdom beyond compare
Teaching in the temple - to those yet unaware
This young man before them would be
The supreme sacrifice chosen for you and me

So at 30 years old his ministry began
Jesus was no ordinary man
He worked miracles - healing the sick, the lame, and blind
At his command, mere water turned into wine

Sinners brought to Jesus - their judgment to face
But there in Him they met mercy and grace
He reached for the lost, the hurting and poor
He said - come to me - carry your burdens no more

This man was the answer to hurt, fear and strife
He made winds to cease and the dead come back to life
He taught with such gentleness, compassion and love
Yet never forgetting the will of his Father above

So when they accused him of things that were not true
He submitted in silence - it was what he had come to do
He came to save a world that was lost
And HIS blood alone could pay the cost

When the soldiers beat him and spit in his face
He knew he was there, taking MY place
For my healing he bore stripes upon his back
It was 39 times that the whip would crack

Betrayed by a friend with a simple kiss
Who ever thought it would come to this
His life in exchange for my sin
And with that satan could never win

He carried a cross to Golgotha's hill
My Lord carried out his Father's will
There, they drove nails in his hands and feet
Jesus, that baby, born innocent and sweet

As he hung on the cross for all to see
He said Father forgive them what they did to me
Many mocked him saying "NOW show us your power"
Then it grew dark from the six to the ninth hour

As the veil in the temple was torn in two
He said "Father, My Spirit, I commend to you"
And... "IT IS FINISHED" he cried
Then, he gave up the ghost and died

There were those that loved him at the foot of the cross
Now broken, scared and alone, they felt such a loss
Jesus, the savior - He was the only righteous one
To redeem the world - they had crucified the Son

He died on that cross - but it was not the end
After 3 days in a tomb - He did rise again
Jesus Christ - the Messiah - alive and well
Conquered the enemy and the powers of hell

Ascending into heaven - He promised to come again
Not leaving us alone - The Holy Ghost he would send
As they beheld Him, there in all his glory
They knew it was not the end of the story

He has gone to prepare a place of reward
For those who obey him as Savior and Lord
He stands at the door and knocks - beckoning in
Those entering His kingdom must be born again

Jesus came to seek and to save all that are lost
Never once stopping to count the cost
That's why he came over 2000 years ago
Now, will YOU be ready when the final trumpets blow?
